It’s officially half way through summer already and just last week I really had the feeling that I’m enjoying the season. I think it’s quite sad how much I always wait for summer to come and when it finally does, I don’t even do anything special. But I do have some good memories over the years and when I started thinking about the summer of my life, I noticed that there’s actually a lot of things simple things that could make have a great summer again. So if you’re like me and you need some fun ideas to step up your summer game, keep on reading.
I’m going to make this post quite simple and just lay my ideas out here because I don’t want it to become too long and overwhelming. Here are things you need to do if you want to have the best summer of your life!
1. DON’T CARE ABOUT THE WEATHER
Haha, I just needed to put it first because the weather issue is real when it comes to summers in Estonia. It’s easy to come up with excuses not to go out and do anything when it’s rainy like 70% of the time. I still believe that rain can be fun, too. I remember the days when we would just dance in the rain and have so much fun when I was younger. It’s just the matter of seeing things.
2. MAKE TIME FOR FRIENDS
Time spent with friends is way better than sitting at home by yourself and that’s a fact. I know that I can feel quite tired and lazy when I have a day off in between my workdays and I often think that it’s just so cozy to sit inside all day. But to be honest, I get in a bad mood at the end of the day every time because I feel like I’ve wasted my day completely. Friendships can fade easily and that’s why you should always make time for them. AND I can guarantee that the best summer memories are made with friends.
3. GO TO THE COUNTRYSIDE/NATURE
Summer in the city can get really boring really easily. At least for me. I feel like there should be a lot of opportunities living in the capital city of my country but still I have no glue how to spend my free days here. Almost everything in the city costs money and even if I’m willing to spend a certain amount just do go out and do something, at least 50% of the time I don’t feel as happy as I thought I would. I just get really exhausted when I’m spending my day running around the city all day. Don’t get me wrong, I thinks its’s super nice to go shopping and eat out sometimes but if everything you do is go out to she shops, it gets tiring. There’s just nothing better than spending some time in a quite and peaceful countryside and I just feel so much better after having an active day in the nature rather than running around shops spending money.
4. MAKE PLANS
Another thing I’m really bad at haha. In the beginning of the summer I always have these big ideas in my head what I want to do this summer but the truth is – things doesn’t just happen. It’s so important to make at least some little plans for your summer because then you have something to wait for and it keeps you motivated. It’s easy to dream about doing something but you’ve actually got a set a date to make them come true. Even little things like going out for a breakfast or meeting up with your best friends can make you feel so much happier. I think we all know that planning is the key!
5. GO TO A CONCERT
Probably the best advice I can give is going to a concert or festival. I know that some of my best memories are related to concerts because these days are always kind of special and that’s why I always like to have something planned for the summer. It’s really up to you to make sure this is going to be a day to remember by picking the artist you like, choosing good company for yourself and doing all sorts of little things that make you happy. Concerts and festival just have such a nice vibe to them during the summer because it’s so nice to enjoy something like that in an open air area.
6. SAY YES MORE
Guys, I dare you to say YES every time someone wants to make plans with you! I think it’s so important to be spontaneous in order to have good fun and these kind of no-planned events can lead to days you’ll remember for the rest of your life. So the next time someone invites to anything I’ll just forbid myself to coming up with excuses and just do it!
7. GO OUT AND HAVE FUN
It may sound like a typical thing to many of you but I actually need to often remind myself that it’s okay to go out and have fun with your friends if you feel like it. Being in a relationship for over 5 years now has made me so comfortable that I rarely go out with friends in the evenings, let alone to a party or something like that. But I think it’s important to get out of your comfort zone from time to time, dress up and go dancing with your girls because you can’t just throw away all your social life for a relationship. At least that’s what I think and if you’re in a healthy relationship, going out with your best friends shouldn’t be a problem at all, it should be the opposite and that’s what I need to remind myself.
8. DO SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY EVERY DAY
At the end of the day, summer is just a season and you shouldn’t stress too much because of it. It’s important to still enjoy the little things in life and feel happy every day. You can turn a bad day around by doing things you really like. For example, if it’s a rainy day and you don’t feel like doing anything, push yourself to go out and have a run in the rain. I bet it makes you feel great and gives you energy to make the rest of your day just as good. It’s all about the little things and if you can find something to be happy about each day, you’ll remember the summer as the happiest you’ve ever been.
9. TRY SOMETHING NEW
Hands down the most thrilling thing you could do. I always get so happy to do stuff like that. New things will surely make you more excited about the day and they will probably make a hell of a good memory. Let it be new food to cook, new style to wear, new hobby to try and so on. As long as it keeps you excited, it’s all that matters.
10. BE ACTIVE
We all know that feeling of wanting to stay in bed all day, watch tv-shows and eat good food. Yeah, that will probably not rock your summer. I have found that I am the most happy when I do stuff, I keep myself busy and active, not letting any laziness to take control. It’s fun to have days planned for different adventures and that’s literally the one thing that could make or brake your summer. If you’re sitting on your couch most of the time, you will probably not create many good memories of this beautiful season and all you can do later is regret. So instead of coming up with excuses, wind a way to make things work and get active!
What do you plan on doing this summer? Let me know if you can relate to any of the things in this post. Happy Monday! xx
